StarSuite

The View Toward The Stars

Looking down upon the station and the StarSuite at the top of the Kuiper Belt Tower. On the mast above the Suite can be seen the vernier thrusters for altering the station's attitude and the Meteoroid Protection Balute; an inflatable ballistic surface to shield the station's end-on frontal area when passing through comet trail paths. The station would be turned from its gravity gradient position to point into the oncoming vector of particles and hide behind the inflated balute. Once the danger has passed, the balute deflates and the station is returned to its normal attitude.
